Coconut shisha charcoal is shisha or hookah charcoal made from carbonized coconut shells, pressed into consistent cubes, flats, fingers, or hexagonal briquettes for waterpipes. As an independent Indonesian export desk, we source coconut shisha charcoal from vetted producers in Sulawesi, North Maluku, and Java, manage pre-shipment QC (including SGS on request), and handle complete export documentation for full-container-load (FCL) buyers.

Who We Are (and What We Are Not)

My name is Rizal Firmansyah. I run the export and trade operations desk for Indonesian coconut-shell shisha charcoal.

Clear scope first:

  • We are an independent export desk: we aggregate production from multiple verified factories, standardize specs, coordinate pre-shipment inspection, and ship FCL orders under your label.
  • We are not a plantation, a single factory, or a marketing agency. We do not own kilns; we work with long-term partner producers in Sulawesi, North Maluku, and Java.
  • We quote based on current factory reality — real lab data and current raw-material conditions, not outdated or inflated spec sheets.
  • We do not publish fixed prices. Any FOB or CFR numbers here are indicative ranges, last verified June 2026, and move with coconut shell cost, freight, and QC specification.

Our focus is simple: stable, repeatable, documented shipments of coconut hookah charcoal for importers who take quality and paperwork seriously.

What We Offer: Export-Ready Coconut Shell Shisha Charcoal

We coordinate production and export of:

  • Super-premium, premium, and standard tiers of coconut charcoal for hookah, tailored to your end market (GCC retail, EU lounges, US distributors, MENA wholesalers).
  • Core shapes: 25 mm and 26 mm cubes, 22×22 mm cubes, flats (e.g., 25×25×17 mm), fingers (e.g., 20×50 mm), hexagonal sticks, and custom dimensions within tooling limits.
  • FCL-ready shipments only (20’ or 40’ containers). We do not ship retail cartons or LCL pallets.
  • Full export documentation: PEB, Certificate of Origin (preferential where applicable), MSDS, and SGS or equivalent third-party inspection if you require it in the LC or PO.

Quality Tiers and Technical Specs (Indicative)

Specifications below are based on typical production from North Maluku, Sulawesi, and Java partner factories and are indicative only. Final specs and price are confirmed per purchase order and pre-shipment analysis.

Tier Target Ash (wb) Fixed Carbon Moisture Volatile Matter Drop Test Typical Use
Super-Premium ≤ 2.0% (most lots 1.6–2.0%) ≥ 80–82% ≤ 5% ≤ 13–14% 4–5 drops from 1 m without cracking GCC retail brands, EU/UK lounge-focused premium shisha charcoal
Premium ~ 2.0–2.5% ~ 78–80% ≤ 6% ~ 14–16% 3–4 drops from 1 m Mainstream brands, wholesalers, café chains
Standard ~ 2.5–3.0% (some producers 3.2%) ~ 75–78% ≤ 7% ~ 16–18% 2–3 drops from 1 m Price-focused markets, local/regional wholesale

Key points:

  • Ash percentage: Keeping ash ≤ 2% on a consistent, container-scale basis requires selecting higher-grade shell, tighter carbonization, and more rejections. This raises cost and sometimes extends lead time.
  • Fixed carbon (FC): Higher FC improves heat and reduces odor but takes longer and more precise charring. Super-premium FC ≥ 80% is realistic; anything much above that in a marketing sheet deserves scrutiny.
  • Color: Properly carbonized coconut charcoal is matte black to dark grey, with compact structure and no visible uncarbonized fibers.

Shapes and Sizes: Cubes, Flats, Fingers & Hex

We sell shisha charcoal wholesale in the shapes global hookah markets already use. Below are the main formats; custom molds can be discussed for regular FCL volumes.

Cube Coconut Shisha Charcoal

  • 25×25×25 mm — the most common size for premium shisha charcoal, widely used in GCC, EU, and US.
  • 26×26×26 mm — slightly longer burn, often requested for heavier smokers and lounge use.
  • 22×22×22 mm — used for some café chains and lighter-smoking markets.

Typical packing for cubes:

  • 1 kg inner box or 250 g/500 g variants (OEM branding)
  • 10 kg master carton (or according to your SKU plan)
  • 20’ FCL: roughly 13–14 MT; 40’ HQ: ~25–26 MT, subject to packaging configuration and local weight limits.

Flat Coconut Hookah Charcoal

Flats are popular for cafés and lounges using multiple pieces per session.

  • Common size: 25×25×17 mm (or similar thickness between 16–18 mm)
  • Usually packed 1 kg / inner with 10 kg / master

Flats generally have a slightly faster ignition and shorter total burn time compared to equivalent cube weights; some café chains prefer this to speed table turnover.

Finger & Hexagonal Shisha Charcoal

  • Fingers: e.g., 20×50 mm, 18×50 mm (diameter/length) — used in some MENA markets and traditional cafés.
  • Hexagonal sticks: hex profile, typically 20–22 mm across flats, ~50 mm long.

Fingers and hex formats are less standardised globally than cubes and flats; we align dimensions to your existing supply or to your preferred burner setups.

From Shell to Container: Production & QC Flow

We work mainly with producers close to coconut shell sources in Sulawesi, North Maluku, and Java. The typical production chain:

  1. Shell sourcing: dried coconut shells without husk, screened for excessive moisture, soil, and contaminants.
  2. Carbonization: slow charring in kilns to target fixed carbon and volatile matter; incomplete carbonization leads to smell and smoke, so kilns are adjusted based on lab data, not guesswork.
  3. Crushing and milling: carbonized material milled to consistent particle size for even pressing.
  4. Briquetting: mixed with food-grade binders and pressed under high pressure into molds (cube/flat/finger/hex).
  5. Drying: ovens or tunnel dryers bring moisture down to target (typically ≤5–6%). Over-drying reduces strength; under-drying risks mold in transit.
  6. Screening & rejection: broken pieces, off-size briquettes, and color deviations removed. Super-premium means higher rejection rates.
  7. Packing: in inner boxes (OEM design) and master cartons, then palletized or floor-loaded per your preference and destination rules.
  8. Lab testing & pre-shipment QC: ash, fixed carbon, moisture, volatile matter, drop test. Third-party SGS inspection can be arranged as per your LC or contractual requirement.

Quality Control and SGS Inspection

Our trust strip is simple and verifiable:

  • SGS or equivalent inspection: On request, we arrange pre-shipment inspection (PSI) with SGS or another recognized third party. Scope can include visual inspection, carton count, and sampling for ash and moisture tests.
  • Production lab tests: Each container lot has internal factory lab results; we share them with you before stuffing. You should compare factory results to third-party tests over your first 2–3 containers.
  • Random carton checks: During stuffing, random cartons are opened to verify shape, size, and packing consistency.

For buyers who rely on strict paper trails (EU café chains, GCC brands under retail audit), we recommend specifying:

  • Sampling method (e.g., ISO-based or SGS SOP)
  • Maximum acceptable ash and moisture ranges
  • Remedy if out-of-spec (price adjustment, partial replacement, or other commercial solution)

Export Documentation and HS Codes

We handle core export documentation from Indonesia. For coconut shisha charcoal, typical classifications and documents include:

HS Code (Indonesia)
Most buyers use HS code 4402.90 (coconut shell charcoal and similar). Some markets classify carbonized briquettes differently; confirm with your customs broker.
PEB (Pemberitahuan Ekspor Barang)
Mandatory Indonesian export declaration. We prepare and submit PEB based on your invoice and packing list details.
Certificate of Origin (COO)
We arrange COO (Form A or FTA-specific where eligible) through authorized Indonesian chambers or agencies. This can reduce duty in some markets.
Inspection Certificate
From SGS or agreed third party, if stated in LC/contract.
MSDS / Safety Data Sheet
Provided to support shipping, insurance, and downstream compliance.
Fumigation Certificate / Phytosanitary
If required by your port or customs, especially for wooden pallets or specific destinations.

If you have specific bank or customs wording (for example, GCC importers under LC terms or EU buyers with strict COO phrasing), share sample documents early. We adjust formats before your first FCL.

FOB & CFR Price Ranges (Indicative, Last Verified June 2026)

We do not post fixed prices because coconut shell cost, kiln fuel, labor, and freight move. Below are indicative FOB ranges ex-main Indonesian ports for full containers, last verified June 2026. Your actual quote may be outside these ranges based on volume, payment terms, QC scope, and packing.

Tier Typical Shape Indicative FOB Range (USD/MT) Notes
Super-Premium 25 mm & 26 mm cubes USD X–Y / MT (exact quote on request) Ash ≤2%, FC ≥80–82%, highest rejection rates, slower lead time in rainy periods.
Premium 25 mm cubes / flats USD X–Y / MT (exact quote on request) Balanced cost/quality for most brands and wholesalers.
Standard 25 mm cubes / fingers USD X–Y / MT (exact quote on request) Higher ash and variable color tolerance, targeted to price-sensitive markets.

CFR (cost and freight) or CIF (cost, insurance, and freight) rates depend strongly on destination port and current container market. GCC and MENA ports sometimes have better freight from certain Indonesian ports than others; EU and US rates are volatile. We will quote CFR only based on current forwarder or carrier data, usually valid for a short window.

Important: treat any online “price per ton” you see as a rough idea only. Always request:

  • Recent lab test from an actual lot (not a generic brochure)
  • Latest freight quote to your specific port
  • Clear packing list format so you can calculate landed cost per retail box

MOQ, Lead Times, and Seasonality

We work FCL-only. Typical minimums:

  • 20’ FCL: 1×20’ per order, one or two shapes/tier mixtures possible within technical limits.
  • 40’ FCL: 1×40’ HQ per order, often better per-ton cost and more flexible mix of SKUs.

Indicative lead times from deposit/LC issuance to FOB load:

  • First order: ~4–6 weeks, including OEM packaging setup, sample approvals, and paperwork alignment.
  • Repeat orders: ~3–4 weeks in dry season; ~4–5 weeks in rainy season or during raw shell tightness.

Variables that can extend lead time:

  • Super-premium ash ≤2% during periods of limited high-grade shell supply
  • Complex OEM packaging (multi-language boxes, special coatings)
  • Congestion at Indonesian ports and limited container availability
  • Third-party inspection scheduling (SGS availability around holidays)

We will always state lead times candidly based on current factory loading and weather conditions; if a producer cannot maintain your spec at your requested timeline, we will tell you clearly instead of overpromising.

Buyer Segments We Serve

We focus on buyers who need consistent coconut charcoal for hookah supply across multiple shipments.

  • GCC importers and brands: Priority is usually low ash, minimal odor, strong heat, and retail-ready OEM boxes. We can match your existing cube and flat sizes and offer SGS inspection for your banks.
  • EU and UK café / lounge chains: Often need stable burn time, traceable documentation, and compliance-friendly MSDS. We align specs to your lounge operations and help you standardise SKUs.
  • US distributors: Typically require clear HS coding, reliable documentation, and predictable palletization. We help you build a portfolio of premium shisha charcoal tailored to regional demand.
  • MENA wholesalers: Value balance between price and quality, usually across several shapes (cubes plus fingers or hex). We arrange mixed containers under a single documentation set where feasible.

If you fit any of these profiles and want a grounded discussion (no inflated promises), you can plan your trip through your next sourcing visit or remote onboarding. Many buyers prefer to finalize specs and logistics with us over WhatsApp; we will share a direct number in our reply so you can review lab data and packing options quickly.

How Our Export Desk Works with You

Process overview from first contact to first container:

  1. Initial RFQ
    You share:
    • Destination port and incoterm (FOB, CFR, CIF)
    • Preferred shapes and sizes (e.g., 26 mm cube + flats)
    • Target ash %, FC %, and any certifications (SGS PSI, specific lab parameters)
    • Packaging concepts (OEM design, neutral cartons, bulk)
    • Payment terms (LC, TT deposit/balance, etc.)
  2. Technical and commercial proposal
    We respond with:

    • Feasible spec window (e.g., ash 1.8–2.1% instead of exactly 2.0%)
    • Indicative FOB range and current freight options
    • Proposed lead times and packing configuration
  3. Samples (if required)
We can arrange paid or netted-against-order samples, shipped by air. Note that small oven batches might perform slightly differently from full-scale production; treat samples as validation of process, not as a guarantee of every briquette in a future 40’.
  4. Contract & PO
Once terms are aligned, we fix specification bands, QC method, documentation list, and remedies. We also decide on container mix and labelling.
  5. Production & QC
We oversee scheduling at partner plants, monitor lab data, and coordinate any mid-production adjustments (e.g., ash trending up, moisture slightly high).
  6. Pre-shipment inspection & stuffing
SGS or another inspector (if engaged) runs their checklist. We supervise loading, ensure carton counts match packing list, and send you photos/videos if requested.
  7. Export docs & dispatch
PEB filed, COO applied, B/L issued, and copies shared to you and your bank. We remain available for any post-arrival issues or claims discussion.

What You Should Verify Yourself

We want long-term trading relationships, not one-time shipments. You should do your own checks:

  • Test multiple cartons from the first FCL: pull random inners from different pallets, not just from the top layer.
  • Measure ash and burn time using your own standard procedure, ideally replicable in your main market.
  • Compare factory lab results to your lab across at least two containers to understand normal variance.
  • Check actual net weight per master carton and calculate landed cost per retail box; align this with your pricing model.

If something is off spec within a realistic tolerance, contact us immediately with photos, test conditions, and lot numbers so we can review and propose a commercial solution.

Risk, Variance, and Honest Limitations

Charcoal is not a synthetic product; it is subject to raw material and processing variance. A few honest limitations:

  • Zero-variance ash is not realistic. If a supplier promises 1.8% ash with absolutely no spread, be cautious. A realistic contract might specify, for example, 1.6–2.1% for super-premium.
  • Rainy-season impact. High humidity can slow drying and raise moisture levels, especially in coastal areas. We manage this by extending drying times and tightening QC, but it can affect lead time.
  • Freight volatility. Ocean rates can move sharply. Any CFR/CIF quote we give has a validity period; booking outside that window requires requoting.
  • Binder and ignition odor. Food-grade binders still have some scent on first light; the target is “clean-burning” after ignition, not perfume-like.

Why Work with an Independent Export Desk?

Working directly with a single factory can be efficient until:

  • They reach production capacity and cannot grow with your volume
  • Raw material quality shifts in their area, changing ash and FC
  • They are optimised for one tier (e.g., low-cost standard) while you need super-premium

As an export desk, we:

  • Qualify multiple producers in Sulawesi, North Maluku, and Java so we can match each buyer to the right capability.
  • Benchmark ash %, FC %, and breakage rates across factories, using consistent test methods.
  • Manage export docs centrally so your paperwork and compliance stay standard, even if we diversify production behind the scenes.
  • Speak “trade desk” language — Incoterms, HS classifications, bank documentation, and photodocumented PSI rather than vague assurances.

We are transparent about our role: we coordinate and standardize; we are not the kiln operator. No one can pay to change what we publish; if you proceed with our partner they may pay us a referral fee at no extra cost to you.

How to Request a Quote (RFQ)

To move from research to a grounded proposal, send an RFQ with:

  • Company name, country, and main destination port
  • Target tier (super-premium / premium / standard) and expected annual volume
  • Preferred shapes and sizes (e.g., 26 mm cubes + 25×25×17 mm flats)
  • Target ash and FC ranges if you already have them in your spec
  • Packaging details: inner box weight, branding status, barcodes
  • Payment term preference (LC at sight, 30/70 TT, etc.)
  • Inspection requirements (SGS PSI yes/no; if yes, what scope?)

Once we receive this, we will respond with clarifying questions and a first indicative range. If you want to walk through sample data or carton drawings interactively, ask to continue the discussion via WhatsApp in your RFQ. You can plan your trip to Indonesia for factory visits as well; many buyers combine first FCL negotiations with on-site inspections and local market research.

FAQ: Coconut Shisha Charcoal Export Basics

What ash percentage can I realistically expect by tier?

Super-premium coconut shisha charcoal from our best-performing partners typically hits 1.6–2.0% ash; we contract on ≤2.0% with a narrow tolerance. Premium tier is usually 2.0–2.5%, and standard around 2.5–3.0% depending on shell quality and price pressure. Any spec sheet claiming 1% ash at scale should be treated carefully and tested independently.

What is your MOQ for coconut charcoal for hookah?

Our minimum is one full container: either a 20’ or 40’ HQ. We do not ship LCL or small parcels. Within a container, we can sometimes mix shapes or tiers as long as packing and labeling remain clear and you accept realistic QC complexity.

Can I get samples before placing an FCL order?

Yes. We can send samples reflecting your requested tier and shape. Airfreight and preparation are usually charged or offset against the first container as agreed. Treat samples as process indicators; always validate the first full container with your own testing across multiple cartons.

What shapes and sizes of premium shisha charcoal do you supply?

We supply 25 mm and 26 mm cubes, 22 mm cubes, flats (typically around 25×25×17 mm), fingers (e.g., 20×50 mm), and hexagonal sticks. Custom dimensions are possible with sufficient volume and lead time; we will confirm tooling and compression feasibility before quoting.

What is the lead time for FCL shipments and how does SGS inspection affect it?

For a first order, expect roughly 4–6 weeks from contract and deposit/LC issuance to FOB loading; repeat orders tend to fall in the 3–4 week range, with longer times in the rainy season or for stricter super-premium specs. Adding SGS pre-shipment inspection can add a few days depending on scheduling, so it is best to lock inspection windows into the production plan from the start.
